Verlorenvlei

Verlorenvlei is one of the largest natural wetlands along the West Coast of South Africa and one of the few coastal fresh water lakes in the country. It is a designated Ramsar site of National importance and provides a varied natural habitat for over 200 bird species.
Verlorenvlei is of particular importance as a feeding area for the white pelican. It also supports over a thousand waders of more than eleven different species.
Other threatened birds include the African fish eagle, greater flamingo, lesser flamingo, Caspian tern, little bittern and the great creasted grebe. Spoonbills, glossy ibises and Egyptian geese are also found in the area.
